Amazon.com Review Since his first novel was published in 1974, Stephen King has stretched the boundaries of the storyteller as a writer who constantly redefines his readers' experience by working in various genres and formats . Whether in an epic horror novel, like THE STAND, a serial-novel like THE GREEN MILE, or a novella like SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, King is able to deliver a reading experience like no one else can. As quickly as a spider spins its web, King reminds us why he's the master of the novella - a format which, up until now that is, one might have thought is fast disappearing.
Product Description
FIRST TIME ON AUDIO... An Unabridged Novella Unavailable In Any Collection! Tapping into our primal fears of modern technology that made Cell a #1 bestseller, Stephen King sets his sights on the latest high-tech gadget in UR, in which a mysterious e-book reader opens a disturbing window into other worlds. Reeling from a painful break-up, English instructor and avid book lover Wesley Smith is haunted by his ex-girlfriend's parting shot: "Why can't you just read off the computer like everyone else?" He buys an e-book reader out of spite, but soon finds he can use the device to glimpse realities he had never before imagined, discovering literary riches beyond his wildest dreams...and all-too-human tragedies that surpass his most terrible nightmares. From vintage cars (Christine and From a Buick 8) to household appliances (Maximum Overdrive) to exercise equipment (Stationary Bike), Stephen King has mesmerized us with tales of apparently ordinary machines that take on lives of their own. UR gives this classic theme an up-to-the-minute spin, resulting in a horror masterpiece for our time and for the ages.

A nice, quick read September 8, 2010 Mandy (NC) I love Stephen King, and I had just purchased my first Kindle, so this was really a no-brainer - I had to have this book!
Wesley purchases an Amazon Kindle in hopes of impressing his ex-girlfriend. He soon discovers that his Kindle is pink, and has the ability to download brand new stories by famous deceased authors. He also discovers that he can download future newspapers from different Urs, which enables him to see into the future.
It's certainly not among King's best works (it's a novella, after all), but it's a really good short read, especially if you own a Kindle!
spooky August 20, 2010 Robin Landry (Seatac, WA United States) Did Amazon pay Stephen King to write UR or did it try to bribe him not to write it? That's the question, and will Kindle be coming out in any other colors? I'm sure the sales would go through the roof if a Kindle came out in 'Breast Cancer Pink'.
A wonderful read from King as usual. His characters are so real and so easily frightened. I'm not sure how many people wouldn't have gone straight to the stock reports, or the winning Lotto numbers instead of taking such a literary road such as Wesley Smith did in the King's new novel UR. Sure, retyping lost Hemingway novels and passing them off as your own might create a guilty conscious, but I doubt betting on the ponies would. But then again, where would the suspense of a Stephen King novel come in?
I thoroughly enjoyed the new 'Kindle-inspired' novelette by Stephen King. I loved the characters and the story line really had me wondering what would happen next. The ending was priceless. UR proves that King really could be interesting even if he were just writing a phone book.
When I Dream
Ur Stephen King August 18, 2010 Mareezy I loved UR. I didn't really know what to expect but I never do with any SK book I read. I'm damn glad I have a kindle now though & I'm equally glad it's not pink. I love that it's linked into The dark tower series too, it makes it more special
offensive product placement August 18, 2010 Surely Mr. King didn't write this blatant self~promoting piece of junk! After two chapters of constant advertisements for Kindle, Amazon and Dell I deleted the whole thing.
Good not great? August 11, 2010 Heather Bella (Sonoma, CA USA) As a Contant Reader of Stephen King I was a little disappointed in UR. It's a good novella and kept my interest but left me wanting more. I think the "product placement" of the Kindle was a little jarring and interrupted the flow of the story.
I'm happy that I purchased UR but it's not my favorite King work.
