Nourishing Your Traditions

Liz Lipski, PhD, CCN

An interview with Sally Fallon, founding President of the Weston A. Price Foundation, and author of Nourishing Traditions and Eat Fat Lose Fat.

In an ideal world, we would consume all our foods at sit-down meals; nevertheless, snacks have their place in today's diet, especially for growing children and for those whose metabolisms require small frequent feedings. Wise parents will keep a variety of nutritious snacks on hand, but at the same time will see to it that they do not replace proper meals.

In this interview:

• Eat Local Whole Foods - More Powerful than a Pill

• Weston Price’s Discovery: Sacred Foods Which Ensure Health

• “A Good Broth Will Resurrect the Dead” - Wow!

• Raw Dairy - Milking the Truth from Controversy (and What About Goats, Anyway?)

• Lacto-fermented Foods & Cultured Dairy - Partners in Digestion

• Removing the Indigestibles & Irritants from Grains

• Nuts and Seeds -- Getting the Most from These Powerhouses

• Healthful Soft Drinks (Isn’t that a Contradiction?)

• The Scoop on Soy - Whom to Believe?

• Making Traditional Food Prep Work in Your Busy Lifestyle

• Fats and Oils - The Good, The Bad and The Dubious

• Whey - It Isn’t Just Yogurt’s Leftover

• Eggs - Organic? Cage Free? Free Range?

• Do Animal Fats Determine Blood Cholesterol Levels?

• Cholesterol and Statin Drugs - Sorting Truth from Politics

Ms. Fallon's lifelong interest in the subject of nutrition began in the early 1970s when she read Nutrition and Physical Degeneration by Weston A. Price. Called the “Charles Darwin of Nutrition,” Price traveled the world, studying healthy primitive populations and their diets. The unforgettable photographs contained in his book document the beautiful facial structure and superb physiques of isolated groups consuming only whole, natural foods. Price noted that all of these diets contained a source of good quality animal fat, which provided numerous factors necessary for the full expression of our genetic potential and optimum health. Ms. Fallon applied the principles of the Price research to the feeding of her own children, and proved for herself that a diet rich in animal fats, and containing the protective factors in old fashioned foodstuffs like cod liver oil, liver and eggs, make for sturdy cheerful children with a high immunity to illness.
