Product Description "If you are a project manager looking for a technology-based, easily implemented, and usable solution for project communications, document management, and general project organization, this book is for you!" -Susan Weese, PgMP, President and Founder, Rhyming Planet Most companies don't understand SharePoint's power, and use it simply to share documents or spreadsheets. This hands-on book demonstrates how SharePoint can also help you organize and manage complex projects. With SharePoint for Project Management, you'll not only understand how to apply common and practical project management concepts in SharePoint, you'll learn how to build a Project Management Information System (PMIS), customized to your project, that can efficiently coordinate communication and collaboration among team members. With this book, you will: - Learn to apply key project management techniques by leveraging SharePoint as a PMIS
- Track a case study that illustrates the circumstances and processes of an effective SharePoint PMIS
- Appropriately define access permissions for project stakeholders and team members
- Centralize project documents and keep track of document history with version control
- Automate project reporting mechanisms and generate on-demand status reports
- Track project schedules, control changes, and manage project risks
- Integrate project management tools such as Excel, Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Each chapter includes activities that let you practice what you learn. Most SharePoint books are either too introductory (for end users), or too technical (for system administrators). SharePoint for Project Management is just what project managers like you need to learn how to harness the organizational abilities of this powerful software.

Great for Beginners April 23, 2010 William S. Melton (Montgomery, AL) [..]
Excerpt:
"If you are a beginner to SharePoint and looking for instruction on using it in project management role, then this is a good book to start with. It does benefit, for optimal learning, to have access to a SharePoint site that you have full access to. The book assumes Window SharePoint Services 3.0 (WSS 3.0), which is a freely licensed version of SharePoint if you have purchased or own licenses for the Window Server 2003 operating system. However all the methods used in the book will also work on higher version as well."...

A helpful Guidance Book March 22, 2010 Ahmed Sherif Ahmed (Abu Dhabi, UAE) This book provides helpful guidance on the 1st needed steps in implementing a Project Management Information System using SharePoint. If I had it the day I started the Project Portal I use to enhance the communications process of my project it would have enhanced my project's life cycle significantly more than today.
Great job Dux! December 15, 2009 G. Maric Dux does a great job going over the features of SharePoint related to project management. The book is easy to follow and shows you how to use SharePoint features to manage projects with out-of-the-box features.
Too elemental, good if you don't know share point November 20, 2009 Luis H. Mora Casillas (Guadalajara, Jalisco Mexico) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a "for dummies" book.
Contains some basic ideas.
If you are an new-to-sharepoint user, it's ok, otherwise it's not recomended.
The focus of the book isn't about PMI methodology, nor for Sharepoint functionality, but it's about using some PMI methodologies with a tool called sharepoint.
A simpe book that was a waste of money.... October 30, 2009 David Rhoa (Hudson, OH) Like some of the people that have posted here, I saw the title and the fact that it was from O'Reilly and thought this may be an enlightening book both from a PM standpoint and from a heavy SharePoint user. I cannot express the level of my disappointment. I did not find one useable concept in this entire book.
If you have a trace PM knowledge, and the slightest amount of SharePoint experience, this book will seem elementary at its most in-depth point. You can get the exact same depth of knowledge from the simple demo videos on Microsoft SharePoint site.
Cannot stress enough what a waste this is. You will not get anything out of this book if you already know how to move web parts around, and use document libraries. It is that simple.
Stay away.
